Why we are building Signal

For investors, the shift towards data-driven decision-making has transformed from a trend to a necessity. Some venture capital and private equity funds, recognizing the power of data, have even begun to invest heavily in building robust in-house data science and engineering capabilities. Examples include early stage VC investors like EarlyBird's EagleEye initiative to later stage private equity investors like EQT's Motherbrain. The benefits of being a data-driven investor are manifold - it helps automate labor-intensive tasks, identify high potential companies faster, and simply put enable investors to make better decisions. Yet, achieving this is neither simple nor straight forward, it requires significant inhouse capabilities, resources, and focus to build and maintain applications that truly generate value.

Complicating matters further is the explosion in available data, making it ever more critical to have the right tools to sift through the noise and find the actual signals. Traditional data tend to be neatly structured, readily available, and fit in to pre-defined categories, think # of users from an internal database, revenue from a financial report, and so forth. However, most new data does not have these nice clean qualities, it is often unstructured, qualitative, and filled with noise, which can be extremely difficult to parse through and analyze using traditional methods. You have probably guessed where this is going already, but these tasks are perfectly suited for machine learning, and not just the hyped generalist/finetuned LLMs, but also the more narrowly focused ones.

This is the purpose of Signal - we sift through the noise to find the signals, we refine and process the data until it is ready to help investors make better decisions.

We are not the only player in this emerging market, but as former data obsessed investors we were unable to find a solution that we thought have sufficient coverage, the right product features, and covered the entire investment process. So, we decided to build one.

Signal is the fruition of our vision: a comprehensive intelligence platform designed by investors, for investors.
